A man has been injured in a shooting in Rotherham, police said.

Armed officers were called to an address on Guild Road just after 00:30 BST on Sunday following reports a man had been hurt.

Police found "evidence consistent with a firearms discharge" and the man was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

South Yorkshire Police said the area had been cordoned off for forensic inquiries and officers were checking CCTV.

Det Insp David Robertson said: "We will not tolerate gun crime in South Yorkshire, this mindless violence has no place in our communities."

He said there would be increased patrols in the area and urged anyone with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage to come forward.
