Large fire at businesses was 'accidental'

A large fire that badly damaged several businesses on a street started accidentally, investigators concluded.

Thirteen fire engines were sent to Hayes Lane in Lye, Stourbridge, after the blaze started at about 17:45 GMT on Saturday.

West Midlands Fire Service said no-one was hurt but their biggest challenge was keeping power supplies running for the local community while making the area safe.

On Monday a spokesperson said the site had been given back to the owners who were told not to enter the building "due to its structural integrity".

The fire service added boarding up would be organised by insurance companies.

All firefighting actions have ended with a final visit confirming that no hotspots remained.
