New crossing and footpaths to link city quarters

A new pedestrian crossing is to be installed in one of Hull's oldest streets.
The crossing in High Street, at the junction with Church Lane Staith, is part of a city council project to create a "pedestrian-friendly" route between the Old Town and Fruit Market.
During the work, footpaths in the area are due to be improved and information panels installed to highlight local history.
A spokesperson for the council said the work would begin on Tuesday and take about three months to complete, with one lane of the road closed and temporary traffic lights in place.
The design for the new crossing includes a raised road surface and paving to match surrounding footpaths.
Gillian Osgerby, from the council, said: "These works will not only improve accessibility for everyone but also highlight the city's rich maritime heritage."
