Power cut destroys food bank's frozen produce
A power cut has destroyed more than £1,000 worth of produce stored in an East Yorkshire food bank's freezers.
Volunteers at the Hessle and Anlaby Food Bank discovered the loss when they returned to the community centre in Hessle after Christmas.
Trustee Susan Hornby said they walked in to find water on the floor and the frozen food ruined.
The centre, which supports more than 100 families and individuals, is appealing for donations of meat and vegetarian items.
Ms Hornby said the frozen food was used to supplement tinned goods and fresh products.
"It means that each time a person comes to the pantry we try and give them some meat or a vegetarian option," she said.
"We are appealing for meat with a long sell by date."
