Hundreds mourn university lecturer Claire Chick

Mourners lit candles in memory of Claire Chick

Hundreds of people have held a vigil for nurse and university lecturer Claire Chick.

Ms Chick, 48, was found seriously injured in West Hoe Road just before 21:00 GMT on Wednesday 22 January and later died in hospital.

Mourners gathered at Plymouth Hoe and lit candles in remembrance of Ms Chick.

The former lighthouse on the city seafront was lit up green in an event organised by Ms Chick's family.

A minute's silence was held at 18:00 as people lit candles in tribute to Ms Chick.

People around the lighthouse reflected on events and hugged each other in support.

Her family said after her death that Ms Chick was "the most beautiful lively soul and was there for everyone".

"She was the life and soul of any place where she was," they said.

The university's vice-chancellor, Prof Richard Davies, said her "contribution to Plymouth was significant and deeply felt – she was a respected nurse, lecturer, and personal tutor, ensuring students were supported academically and pastorally".

A 53-year-old man has been charged with her murder and possession of a bladed article.
