A busy motorway, which was closed in both directions following an "incident", has been reopened.

The incident, at 17:30 GMT, saw the M1 in Hertfordshire closed near Watford and Bricket Wood, while the nearby A405 was simultaneously closed heading southbound from the M1 junction.

Hertfordshire Police attended the scene, and urged drivers to avoid the area.

National Highways said the road had now been reopened and it expected any delays to clear soon after.

An earlier collision on the M1 southbound carriageway in Bedfordshire also triggered delays between junction 13 and junction 12.
