A man has been jailed for three years for sending sexual messages to who he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

Dominic Carr, 34, engaged in conversations of a sexual nature with the "child" last August, who was actually a decoy, Cumbria Police said.

He was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court for attempting to cause or engage a girl aged 13-15 in sexual activity and attempting to sexually communicate with a child.

Carr, of Highgate, Kendal, was also given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Det Con Ewan Breeze said: "Carr was aware the 'child' he was speaking to was 14 years old when he engaged in conversations of a sexual nature.

"Although the child was a decoy, Carr is an obvious risk to young people."

Det Con Breeze said the sentence was a "warning" to anyone considering communicating with children sexually.

"We have a dedicated unit and have a range of tactics at our disposal," he said.
