Jail for man who threatened to kill police officers

A man who threatened to kill two police officers who were on bicycle patrol has been jailed.

Joshua Warren, 27, was detained when the officers spotted him smoking cannabis in Faringdon Park, Swindon.

On Wednesday Swindon Magistrates Court heard Warren was arrested after he was found to have a package of the drug on him and became became verbally abusive then made threats to kill and behead the officers.

Warren, who the court was told had 13 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to public order and possession of cannabis offences and was jailed for 14 weeks.

PC Huntington and PC Hawkins were on bicycle patrol when they came across Warren.

PC Huntington and PC Hawkins are neighbourhood policing officers who were on their second day of bike patrols covering Railway Village, Kingshill and Rushy Platt in Swindon when the incident happened.

PC Huntington said: "Joshua Warren is a prolific offender who continues to cause harm in the local community so I am pleased he will spend time behind bars.

"This type of behaviour is unacceptable and we will take robust action against people who exhibit it."

Wiltshire Police said people can contact their local neighbourhood policing teams to report anti-social behaviour.
