Cannabis factory found inside 'typical home'

Almost 300 cannabis plants were discovered during a raid on what police described as a "typical suburban home."

The factory was spread across three upstairs rooms of the property in Doncaster, including equipment to grow the Class B drug and 70 mature plants.

Xhuljo Osmenaj, 23, of Coppice Road, who was arrested during Tuesday morning's raid, admitted production of a controlled Class B drug at Doncaster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Sgt Kelly Ward from South Yorkshire Police said: "These illicit farms are often controlled by violent organised crime gangs who are responsible for wreaking havoc and misery on local communities."

"The gangs are responsible for violence, intimidation and wider criminal activities, with vulnerable people often exploited to look after these cannabis grows.

"This was a sophisticated cannabis set-up found inside what looks like a typical semi-detached home on an ordinary residential street," she added.

Osmenaj was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance before Sheffield Crown Court on 12 February.
