A road in Surrey is to be closed for six weeks while work is carried out to connect drainage to a new housing development.

Work in Stafford Road in Caterham will begin on Monday and is expected to continue until 14 February.

The work is required to connect drainage to the Bronzeoak housing development, as well as lay a new kerb and pavement, Tandridge District Council said.

A section of the road near Caterham Library will be closed in both directions, with some traffic delays expected, especially during peak hours, the authority added.

"These works, carried out by Surrey County Council's contractor Cast & Teller, may cause disruption for residents, businesses and commuters," a council spokesperson said.

"Drivers are advised to plan ahead and follow the detour routes clearly marked with signs along the way."

Pavements will remain open for pedestrians.
