Children's playgrounds to be refurbished
Six playgrounds in a Surrey district are set to be refurbished.
Tandridge District Council has awarded contracts to Kompan and Eibe to improve the play areas by making them "more accessible, weather resistant and fun for all ages and abilities".
Jenners Field, in Lingfield; Grange Meadow, in Bletchingley; Hamsey Green, in Warlingham; Weston Drive, Caterham Barracks in Caterham; Mill Lane in Hurst Green and Mid Street in South Nutfield are all to be refurbished.
Councillor Deb Shiner, chair of community services, said the upgrades would "make them even more enjoyable for families, children and visitors to our area".
The council previously said there were 36 playgrounds in the Tandridge district, but it did not have the money to refurbish them all at once.
It said in October it had set aside £700,000 to upgrade some "key sites" as part of the council's health and wellbeing strategy.
A spokesperson said: "Some playgrounds are in areas which are prone to flooding and investment is needed to make them more accessible and resilient, especially over the winter months.
"The council has explored opportunities for collaboration and for fundraising to boost the refurbishment budget with community stakeholders, for example parish councils."
