Family evacuated after car crashes into home
A family of four had to be evacuated after a car crashed into their home in Nottinghamshire.
Emergency services were called to Hollinwood Lane at 22:50 GMT on Saturday after the car hit a parked vehicle, left the road and hit the building, which is owned by Calverton Miners Welfare.
Nottinghamshire Police said a 25-year-old man was arrested at about 01:30 the following day on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Calverton Miners Welfare has closed for safety reasons following advice from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Dean Wilson, chairman of trustees at the venue, said nobody could enter the building "until it's been structurally assessed".
The 65-year-old told the BBC the club is trying to find alternative accommodation for the family, who lived in a flat on the first floor.
"The amount of damage to the welfare appears to be not that much, but when something slams into a building like that you just don't know what else might be shunted or cracked," he said.
"That can all be taken care of through the insurance, [but] that young family had to be evacuated.
"I know they've got a baby who's just a few months old, and they had to leave the premises by actually climbing over the car that is embedded where it is.
"They're OK, nobody was injured, but the baby's bedroom is directly above where the car has hit."
Police said no serious injuries were reported after the crash, adding an investigation into what happened is ongoing.
