Rugby player sacked after being charged with rape
A rugby league player has been sacked by his club after being charged with rape and sexual assault.
Bradford Bulls said it had terminated Keven Appo's contract after West Yorkshire Police charged the 25-year-old with rape, sexual assault and two counts of assault.
Mr Appo, of Halifax, is due to appear at Bradford Magistrates Court on Monday.
A spokesperson for the Bulls said the Championship club would make "no further comment at this stage".
In a statement the club said: "Following today's West Yorkshire Police statement, the Bradford Bulls have cancelled Keven Appo's playing contract.
"Given the circumstances, the club is duty bound to make no further comment at this stage.
"The search for a suitable, quality replacement is underway."
Papua New Guinea international Mr Appo played at the 2022 Rugby League World Cup, which was held in England.
He joined the Bulls in 2023, before signing a new two-year deal in August last year.
