Search for suspect after 'serious' attack in city

Police in Plymouth say they are searching for a suspect following a "serious assault" in the West Hoe area of the city.

Devon and Cornwall Police said its officers were called at 20:55 GMT on Wednesday evening after a person was found seriously injured on West Hoe Road. They were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Derriford Hospital.

The victim and the attacker are believed to know each other, the force added.

On Thursday, police said a scene guard remained in place on West Hoe Road which has been closed.

Police asked members of the public to "stay away" from the area while officers continue their investigation

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Det Ch Insp Dave Pebworth said there was a large police presence in the area and inquiries were continuing with officers carrying out a search for the suspect.

"We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the wider public," he said in a statement.

"We would ask members of the public to please stay away from the West Hoe area of the city while we continue our investigation," he added.
