'In the blink of an eye my life changed forever'

William Sayers was 12 years old when an accident on his family farm near Donemana in County Tyrone changed his life forever.

Determined to finish slurry-spreading, he was checking how the tank was filling when his unzipped coat got caught in fast-moving machinery and "in the blink of an eye", his right arm was gone and all his clothing stripped off him.

Agriculture remains one of the most dangerous sectors in the Northern Ireland, with around half (47%) of all workplace deaths happening on a farm in 2023/24.
