Three men have been jailed for importing cocaine into Jersey.

Shahiukh Syed Gilani was sentenced to six years and 10 months in prison, Terence O'Hagan to five years and Reece McLaren to seven years in the Royal Court on Monday.

The States of Jersey Police said officers had arrested the men in June 2024 after a surveillance operation tracked them meeting and receiving a postal package containing 66g (2.3oz) of the Class A drug.

Police said McLaren, 29, from Huddersfield, and Gilani, 39, from London, had met with Jersey resident O'Hagan, 64, and asked him for his contacts as they wanted to become the island's main suppliers of cocaine.

Officers said McLaren and Gilani had stayed in Jersey from 13 to 16 June, during which time the pair imported 7g of cocaine and met with Terence O'Hagan.

Police said the pair returned to the island on 20 June and the following day officers intercepted a parcel of 66g of cocaine posted to the holiday property McLaren and Gilani were staying in.

Officers arrested the men after the package had been delivered.

The police said the estimated street value of the imported drugs was between £9,900 and £16,500.

Det Insp Christina Maclennan, of the States Police drug squad, said officers would "do our utmost to prosecute anyone who imports and or deals drugs in Jersey".
