The M25 in Surrey has reopened in both directions following work to demolish a bridge, National Highways has said.

A full closure of the motorway between junction 10, near Wisley, and junction 11, for Woking, saw both carriageways shut over the weekend from 21:00 GMT on Friday.

The affected section of motorway reopened at about 06:00.

The work is part of a £317m project to add extra lanes to improve safety and cut congestion where the motorway meets the A3.

Diversion routes were put in place around the closure.

National Highways said on Saturday there were delays of up to 30 minutes on the approach to both junctions but there were no delays on Monday morning.

Work began in 2022 and was due to end this summer but the completion date has now been delayed until spring 2026, due to "periods of extreme weather".

However, National Highways said this would be the final full weekend closure of the motorway.

It said previously there had been a "notable increase" in traffic during the last closure compared with the three closures in 2024.

Drivers had been encouraged to allow extra time and to use alternative routes where possible.

Motorists were also reminded to follow official diversions, after an HGV driver had to be rescued by Surrey Police from Pyrford Lock after following Google Maps instead.
