Second phase of traffic improvements to start

The first phase of a year-long project to improve traffic routes in a Wiltshire town is set to be completed.
The Halve and Roundstone Street in Trowbridge will reopen to traffic on 25 March from its junction with Duke Street to the Hilperton Road roundabout.
The second phase of improvements will begin on 26 March, focusing on Roundstone Street and continuing until about 5 May.
Parvis Khansari, corporate director at Wiltshire Council, said: "We understand these works may cause some disruption, and we appreciate the continued patience and understanding of local businesses and residents."
Throughout the second phase, temporary traffic management measures will be in place 24 hours a day.
Roundstone Street will be closed from its junction with Yerbury Street to Hilperton Road roundabout.
The bus, taxi, and cycle gate on Roundstone Street will be temporarily suspended, but the outside lane closure on Hilperton Road roundabout will remain in place.
From around 6 May to 16 July, improvement works will progress further along Roundstone Street, with the road closure shifting from Yerbury Street junction to Polebarn Road junction.
The scheme aims to improve pedestrian access by reviewing footpath widths, reinforcing the pedestrian route along Roundstone Street, and introducing formal crossings for pedestrians and cyclists to connect with Hilperton Road.
The improvement works will be carried out between 7:00 and 19:00 GMT, Monday to Saturday.
Temporary access restrictions for residents and businesses may occur due to site operations, but businesses will be contacted in advance to limit any inconvenience, Wiltshire Council said.
The final phase will be carried out from October 2025 to March 2026.
