The Harris Memorial Surgery has been upgraded from inadequate to good

A Cornish GP surgery has been moved out of special measures after inspectors found "significant improvements" in the service.

The Harris Memorial Surgery in Illogan near Redruth originally had an inadequate rating but following an inspection in January 2025 has been upgraded to good.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said the inspection was carried out to follow up on improvements the service was told to make following the previous inspection in 2023.

The practice's ratings for how effective and responsive it is, also improved from requires improvement to good, while its caring rating remained good.

The surgery provides services to more than 6,000 people in the county.

CQC said the practice previously had three breaches of regulations but the latest inspection revealed there were "no longer any".

They said they found the feedback from patients was consistently positive while staff fully ensured patients understood their care and treatment options.

'Clear process'

It also found leaders had developed a clear vision and strategy to deliver high-quality care.

Cath Campbell, CQC's deputy director of operations in Gloucestershire, said they found "a significant improvement in leadership".

She said staff had a "clear process for prioritising people with the most urgent needs.

"We'll continue to monitor the service to ensure these improvements are sustained long term."
