Cory Booker breaks 24-hour record in speech slamming Trump's agenda
Senator Cory Booker has broken the record of longest speech given on the Senate Chamber floor on Tuesday.
The New Jersey senator spoke for more than 24 hours with barely any breaks in a speech criticising the Trump administration's policies. The speech began Monday night and he was still speaking at at 19:20 on Tuesday.
He surpassed the record of 24 hours and 18 minutes set by Strom Thurmond in a 1957 filibuster speech intended to prevent the passage of the Civil Rights Act of that year.
"I rise with the intention of disrupting the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able," Booker said.
