The migrant women learning DIY skills to take control of their lives

Women who have fled war and violence to seek a safe life in Scotland have been offered basic DIY training to help them settle in new homes and communities.

The Glasgow Trades Collective and Milk - a social enterprise - support women from migrant backgrounds, including refugees and asylum seekers, and have started this project for women in Glasgow.

Refugees can often be given basic and poor emergency accommodation with their children, but the skills mean they can improve their homes themselves.

The classes teach them how to use power tools, and put up shelves and wall fittings. They can then pass on the skills to others in the community.
