Memorial plaques have been stolen from a cemetery in Wolverhampton by suspected metal thieves.

West Midlands Police said patrols had been increased around Bushbury Cemetery on Underhill Lane.

It is thought the 18 plaques, targeted over 11 and 12 November, could have been stolen to be sold to scrap metal dealers.

The theft follows similar incidents at the Bilston and Merridale cemeteries.

Councillor Craig Collingswood said authorities were committed to bringing the "heartless robbers" to justice.

He condemned the thefts and said it was a "deeply upsetting situation" for the families involved.

"I want to assure people that we are committed to doing everything we can to stop crimes such as this and track down the heartless thieves responsible," he added.

Anyone with further information has been urged to contact the police.
