Authorities are responding to bird flu in Cheshire

A further case of bird flu has been confirmed in commercial poultry in Cheshire.

All birds at the affected site in Calveley would be culled, said the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.

Temporary control zones of 3km and 10km have been put in place around the site.

It comes after avian influenza was found in birds in a commercial premises near Crewe on 22 January.

Control zones have also been established around premises near Tarporley and Aldersey.

The UK has recently seen a large number of outbreaks and incidents of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza in birds across the country, which while highly pathogenic in birds has been said to pose a low risk to people.
