A motorcyclist who did not hold a driving licence when he struck and killed a man who was on his way home from a pub has appeared in court.

Reece Manley, 24, denied driving dangerously before the collision with pedestrian Alan Lloyd, 75, in Beeston, Leeds, in March 2022.

At Leeds Crown Court earlier he admitted driving while unlicensed and uninsured when he hit Mr Lloyd on the A6110 ring road.

He will stand trial for the causing death by dangerous driving charge in August 2026, more than four years after the crash.

'Regrettable'

The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Guy Kearl KC, described the length of time between the collision and the trial as "regrettable" during the plea hearing.

West Yorkshire Police said that Mr Lloyd, whose family were in court, had been at a Wetherspoons pub in Bingley with a friend before making his way home to East Ardsley, when the collision took place.

The Kawasaki motorcycle was travelling towards the Wortley area from the direction of the M621.

Mr Manley, of Welford Road, Filey, North Yorkshire, was given bail until his next court appearance.
