Six crews of firefighters have been called to a blaze in a building in Rotherham and are expected to remain at the scene "throughout the evening," according to the fire service.

Residents living near Moorgate Road have been asked to keep their windows and doors shut due to the large amount of smoke in the area, a South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

The fire was reported at about 17:44 BST and the response was increased at about 19:30 to include six engines and an aerial ladder.

A spokesperson added: "Please avoid the area while our crews work to bring this incident under control."
