A man who falsely advertised his flat for rent to scam numerous people out of thousands of pounds has pleaded guilty to nine counts of fraud.

Kyle Jackson, of Hart Close, Wilton, Wiltshire, repeatedly advertised his flat online and arranged viewings over the past year, before requesting payment of about £1,200 for the deposit and the first month's rent from the victim.

But after receiving the money, he refused to let the tenants move in and failed to return their money.

The 31-year-old admitted nine counts of fraud by false representation at Salisbury Magistrates' Court on Thursday and is due to be sentenced on 12 March.

PC Bues, from Wiltshire Police, described Jackson as a "prolific fraudster"

"His actions have serious, real-world consequences – one of the victims was made homeless as a result.

"There can be no justification for this and processes are now under way to see if the victims can receive compensation."

Police advised tenants to do their "due diligence" when looking for a place to rent by using reliable agents and websites which verify adverts.

They also urged tenants to not send money before moving in and to notify their banks if they have any concerns regarding payments.
