A bridge club in Devon is taking the game on the road in a bid to attract younger members.

Exeter Bridge Club said its membership had dwindled due ageing players and the attraction of online forms of the game.

The club is hoping to encourage new players by taking the card game into schools, prisons and community groups.

Club organiser, Jeremy Child, said: "If I can get them [younger players] to come to two beginner lessons, then I've got them hooked."

Mr Child said bridge was "the game which keeps giving".

"It promotes critical thinking and analysis which are all good for people."

Member Celia Mawd-Taylor said the club meant "getting out, meeting people, using my brain, and trying to use my memory and it's fun".

Another card player, Alan Austin, said: "Everybody at the club is nice and friendly and fortunately no-one takes bridge too seriously."
