A teenager has been charged by police investigating reports of someone armed with a machete in Wolverhampton.

West Midlands Police said a male had been seen carrying a knife in Stowheath Lane on Monday afternoon.

A 17-year-old man has been charged with making threats with a bladed article in a public place, as well as possession of cannabis.

He appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday for a first hearing.

Data released from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), covering the period year ending October 2023 to September 2024, showed West Midlands Police had seen knife crime fall by 6%.

This means the force area no longer has the worst rate of knife crime in the country, although levels remain high.
