Police officer punched on jaw after car crash
A 26-year-old man has been arrested after a police officer was allegedly punched by the driver of a car who crashed after trying to overtake four vehicles in County Antrim.
The driver attempted the manoeuvre on Castle Road in Antrim on Monday evening but hit another vehicle, spun out of control, hit a curb and collided with a wall before landing in a ditch, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said.
When officers spoke to the driver he became "extremely agitated" before striking one of the officers to the jaw.
A man was subsequently arrested on suspicion driving whilst unfit, assault on police and resisting police.
He has been released on police bail.
A woman, who was driving the other vehicle involved in the collision suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital for treatment.
Police have appealed for information.
