Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was killed in a collision with a van.

The driver of the van was arrested and remains in custody with Avon and Somerset Police, officers said.

The force was called to Lisieux Way in Taunton, Somerset, shortly after 10:00 GMT on Monday. The cyclist was taken to hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Police are appealing for any witnesses and a road closure remains in place while they conduct enquiries.

The force said in a statement: "[The cyclist's] next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time."

The family will be offered support from a specially trained liaison officer, the force added.
