The death of a woman whose body was found at a property in York is being treated as suspicious, police have said.

The woman, who was in her 60s, was found by officers just before 11:30 BST after they were called to the property on Albert Street, near Walmgate, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

A 53-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation and remained in custody, they added.

The force spokesperson said: "We believe it was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community, nevertheless we have stepped up reassurance patrols in the area while our inquiries continue at the scene."
