The leader of South Kesteven District Council, Ashley Baxter, has proposed an increase to council tax for 2025/26

Senior leaders at South Kesteven District Council have recommended a council tax increase of 2.98%.

The draft budget was agreed at a meeting on Tuesday, with leader Councillor Ashley Baxter saying it had been "discussed at length" over the past five months.

It means the district council's proportion of council tax will increase by an average of £5.51 for a band D property.

The plan is due to be finalised at a full council meeting on 27 February.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the authority will also transfer £2m to its property maintenance reserve from its local priority reserve.

Mr Baxter explained: "We have a large portfolio of buildings which have not been maintained as they should have been.

"We want facilities in our district that are fit for purpose."
