A new convenience store's plan to sell alcohol has angered local residents, who worry the extended trading hours could lead to noise disturbance and anti-social behaviour.

The new S & P Your Local Store in Brixworth has applied to West Northamptonshire Council for a licence to sell alcohol seven days a week between 06:00 and 23:00.

The application has prompted eight objections from members of the public.

The council will review the application and make a decision on 14 January.

One resident said they had lived opposite the premises for 17 years and had a "big concern" over the proposed hours.

"I feel this would severely affect myself and affect mine and other neighbours' enjoyment and peace of our own homes," the said.

Originally, the applicant, Paramasivam Suppiah, sought permission to keep the shop open until midnight but revised the closing time to 23:00 daily to address some concerns.

Another resident argued the extended opening times were unnecessary.

"This is not fair or reasonable for a residential area. Another off-licence with such long hours is neither wanted nor needed," they said.

However, one individual said: "It would be very good for the area to have a convenience store with longer hours.

"I'm confident they will sell alcohol responsibly."

Neither the police nor fire service raised objections, with both confirming to the Local Democracy Reporting Service they had no evidence of anti-social behaviour nearby.
