A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an assault in a shopping centre.

Essex Police said it was called to reports a man in his 30s had suffered life-threatening injuries at the Staple Tye Shopping Centre in Harlow at about 16:20 GMT on Tuesday.

He remains in hospital in a serious, but no longer life-threatening, condition.

A 19-year-old man from the town was arrested in Chatham, Kent, on Wednesday morning, the force said.

Earlier on Tuesday, police received reports a 17-year-old boy had been forced into a blue vehicle in Terminus Street, about 1.5 miles (2.4km) away from the shopping centre.

Officers believe the two incidents are linked and have also arrested the 19-year-old on suspicion of kidnap.

Sgt Simon Roissetter said he did not believe there was "any wider threat to the public".

He urged witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage, to contact Essex Police.
