A man and a woman have suffered life-threatening injuries after they were stabbed in Hull, police said.

Officers were called at about 02:00 GMT on Saturday to the junction between Buckingham Street and Brecon Street, with a 35-year-old man found with a stab wound to the stomach and a serious head injury.

An hour later they attended Rosmead Street, about one mile away from the first incident, after reports a 33-year-old woman had sustained stab wounds to the neck.

Humberside Police said it believed the incidents were connected, with "no wider risk to the public".

Det Insp Mark Skelton said: "A man and a woman remain in hospital for treatment to injuries which are thought to be life-threatening at this time.

"We believe these incidents to be connected and I would like to offer my reassurance that the individuals are believed to be known to each other."

The force said an increased police presence and multiple scene guards were in place on Barnsley Street, Buckingham Street, and Rosmead Street.

Those with information or CCTV have been asked to get in contact with police.
