The trial of a mother accused of murdering a woman in Lincolnshire has been pushed back because she has just given birth.

Stephanie McLaggan, 37, of North Warren Road, Gainsborough, was due to stand trial at Lincoln Crown Court on 20 January after pleading not guilty to the murder of 44-year-old Gillian Connelly in September 2024.

Ms Connelly was found with serious injuries in Wheeldon Street, Gainsborough, in the early hours of 28 July 2024 and died later in hospital.

During a pre-trial hearing on Friday, Judge Simon Hirst KC was told Ms McLaggan had recently given birth and would not be fit to stand trial within the next couple of months.

He adjourned the five-day trial until 27 May.

Ms McLaggan, who appeared in court via video link from HMP Peterborough, only spoke to confirm her name and has been remanded into custody.
