Drivers face bus gate fines from Thursday

Drivers who illegally use a bus gate will face fines from Thursday.
The Mill Road bridge bus gate in Cambridge should not be used by vehicles except buses, emergency services, taxis and blue badge holders' registered vehicles.
Cambridgeshire County Council previously announced fines would not be handed out while work was undertaken to fix a burst water main.
However, the authority said now that work had finished, cameras would be turned on and enforcement of the bus gate would resume.
A council spokesperson said: "The work to fix a burst water main on Mill Road is complete.
"Enforcement of the Mill Road bridge bus gate will resume tomorrow (Thursday, 13 March), with fines being issued to non-exempt vehicles."
Bus gate restrictions had been in place since December, however, they were phased in to allow drivers to get used to the new layout.
Neil Shailer, vice-chair of its highways and transport committee, said: "Nobody wants to be fining people, which is why we introduced the restriction in a measured way."
He added that if a vehicle used the gate and was not exempt, a penalty charge notice would be issued.
