Doctor struck off over racial abuse and bullying
A doctor who bullied, swore at and racially abused his colleagues over a five year period has banned from the profession.
The Medical Practitioner Tribunal Service (MPTS) found that the actions and behaviour of Alexandru Boanca were "anything but respectful or polite and fell well below the standards expected of a registered doctor".
The doctor, who practised at various locations including the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT), even verbally abused an investigator from the General Medical Council (GMC).
The tribunal found Romanian Dr Boanca had the potential to bring the profession into disrepute and ruled his fitness to practise is impaired by reason of misconduct.
'Upset and shocked'
MPTS rejected claims from the doctor it had considered inaccurate evidence from ex-colleagues.
The panel saw showed records of expletive-laden emails, text messages and Whatsapp messages that also had contained sexual slurs and racist epithets.
The doctor qualified in 2006 and was registered with the GMC in 2014.
The tribunal upheld allegations that on a number of occasions between 30 May 2019 and 10 February 2021 Dr Boanca "behaved inappropriately towards colleagues causing them to feel variously threatened, upset and shocked".
It is also found that between 13 August 2021 and 21 March 2024, Dr Boanca behaved in "an abusive and offensive manner towards staff at four locum agencies and staff at the GMC".
It also found that in two instances Dr Boanca's conduct was motivated by racial hostility.
The tribunal noted that as late as December the doctor had abused GMC staff.
The tribunal concluded that its finding of "serious misconduct, particularly in light of the racist and misogynistic language used" meant the "only appropriate sanction" was to strike him off the register.
