'Wonderful' hospice receives £200k funding

A "wonderful" hospice is to receive more than £200,000 to modernise facilities and ensure high-quality patient care.

Trinity Hospice and Palliative Care Services in Bispham, Blackpool, will receive the funding as the government releases £25m for upgrades and refurbishments for hospices.

The hospice will receive just over £205,000 "to help continue and expand on the valuable work it does in the community", a government spokesman said.

Blackpool South MP Chris Webb said the money would "make a real difference for hospices in our community that do such a wonderful job supporting local families".

"Trinity Hospice does a wonderful job at providing support for people with life-limiting conditions and their loved ones," he said. "This government funding will make a real difference to my constituents."

The immediate cash injection, allocated through Hospice UK from the Department of Health and Social Care, will enable hospices to purchase essential new medical equipment, undertake building refurbishments, improve technology, upgrade facilities for patients and families and implement energy efficiency measures.

The government said a larger £75m investment in April would support more substantial capital projects – including major building works and facility modernisation – throughout the next financial year.

The cash forms a key part of the government's Plan for Change, which aims to improve care in the community.
