Fire crews rescue stranded family and trapped dog

Fire crews rescued a dog trapped on a cliff and a family cut off by the tide in two separate incidents over the weekend.
Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said a family of five had been trapped by the incoming tide near Seymour on Sunday.
A spokesperson said the family went to the refuge tower halfway between Seymour Tower and the shore and Jersey Coastguard mobilised a fire crew in an inshore rescue boat to return them to shore.
They said crews had safely rescued a springer spaniel from cliffs to the east of Bouley Bay on Saturday afternoon and reunited it with its owners.
Staying safe
The spokesperson said the couple had asked for help rescuing the dog when they realised it was not safe for them to try.
The crew used specialist rope equipment to rescue the spaniel, they added, which was "extremely tired" but appeared uninjured.
The spokesperson reminded islanders and visitors of ways to stay safe on cliff paths, such as staying away from steep edges, and around water which includes checking tide times.
