Drunk driver who killed man jailed for four years

A drink-driver who killed one of his passengers in a crash has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Artur Mieszczak, 41, from Old Town in Swindon, pleaded guilty on 6 March to causing death by driving without due care while over the prescribed limit of alcohol, while uninsured, and while unlicensed.
He was driving on 6 July 2023 when he hit a tree on Old Birdlip Hill, Witcombe, Gloucestershire, killing a passenger in his 50s and seriously injuring another passenger, a woman in her 20s.
Receiving his sentence at Gloucestershire Crown Court on Wednesday, Mieszczak was also banned from driving for seven years.
Mieszczak will only be allowed to drive again after taking an extended test and was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228.
