A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

A woman has died following a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

The incident happened on Harrogate Road in Alwoodley, Leeds, at 12:29 GMT on Monday, according to West Yorkshire Police.

The 81-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries but died a short time later.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident happened between the junctions of Belvedere Road and Belvedere Avenue.

"The car had been travelling away from Wigton Lane/Alwoodley Lane junction towards the A6120," added the spokesperson.

Police arrested the driver of a blue Skoda Rapid. He has been released on bail as enquiries continue.

Officers appealed for anyone with footage of the collision to get in touch.
