A taxi driver had his licence revoked after being abusive towards a parking enforcement officer at a crossing outside a Cornwall primary school.

The incident happened after the driver was issued a parking charge notice for parking on zig-zag lines in the St Austell area, according to Cornwall Council.

The authority said he "proceeded to track down the officer to argue about the ticket".

It said the driver "swore and was abusive to the officer in front of young children" and the incident was captured on the officer's body worn camera.

'Totally unacceptable'

The council's licensing committee ruled that the driver's behaviour was not that "of a fit and proper person" to hold a taxi licence and revoked it.

Councillor Carol Mould, portfolio holder for Neighbourhoods at Cornwall Council, said: "We will not tolerate any kind of abuse towards our staff, or members of the public.

"This individual's behaviour was totally unacceptable.

"We expect taxi drivers to abide by the statutory taxi and private hire vehicle standards."

She said drivers who fail to follow the standards risk losing their licence.
