A leisure complex in Derby is set to be expanded as part of a £327,000 project.

The gym at Moorways Sports Village, which is owned by Derby City Council and run by Everyone Active, will be increased to cover the majority of the second floor.

About 55 more stations will be installed including a sled track, additional treadmills and new resistance and plate-loaded machines.

Work is due to begin on 21 April and is scheduled to be completed by 20 June.

Everyone Active says the expansion is due to an increase in memberships year-on-year.

The operator says disruption to current members is not anticipated during the work, with members able to use all facilities as normal while upgrades are ongoing.

As part of the project, group fitness facilities will be relocated to the first floor, where the existing meeting rooms are being turned into a new multi-purpose studio.

Everyone Active's general manager Myles Hickman said: "The upgrades will enable us to accommodate more people, providing a wider range of state-of-the-art equipment which aligns with current fitness trends."

Ndukwe Onuoha, Derby City Council cabinet member for street pride, public safety and leisure, added: "This exciting project to expand the fitness suite will enhance the gym experience for members and allow even more Derby citizens to boost their health and wellbeing."
