Dangerous driver crashes car during police chase
A driver who crashed his car during a police pursuit and then tried to run away has been sentenced.
Scott Bone, 37, came to the attention of police when he was speeding through Water Lane in York on 9 October.
At York Crown Court on Thursday, he was handed a 12-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.
Bone, of Ingram Avenue, York, was also disqualified from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay £387.
North Yorkshire Police said that during the 15-minute pursuit, Bone went through a red light and turned off his car's lights on unlit sections of the road before crashing it into a field.
In custody, he failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, and was found to be in possession of pregabalin tablets that had not been prescribed to him.
Bone also pleaded guilty to possessing a Class C drug, failing to provide a specimen of breath, and obstructing police.
In addition to his sentence, he was ordered to undertake drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment and carry out unpaid work for 280 hours.
Traffic Sgt Ryan Lyth said Bone's behaviour had been "totally unacceptable".
He added: "We will continue to target and pursue offenders like him who cause a danger on our roads."
