Man dies and passenger injured in M9 collision

A 37-year-old male driver has died and his passenger was seriously injured in a single-vehicle collision on the M9 near Carronshore, Falkirk.

The incident happened at about 04:30 on Wednesday between junctions six and seven on the northbound carriageway.

The driver of the black Vauxhall Corsa was pronounced dead at the scene and the 32-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital in Edinburgh where his condition was described as stable.

The motorway was closed northbound for about eight hours as a result of the incident.

Sgt Scott Kirkpatrick said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"We are asking anyone driving in the area around the time of the crash who may have information that could assist with our investigation to get in touch.

"In particular, please check dash-cams and if you have footage that may help then make contact with officers."
