Heavy-duty straps used to lift boats are thought by police to have been used in cash machine thefts.

Straps that may have been taken from a boat were used in a raid in Evesham on Boxing Day, the West Mercia force said, which added the straps were attached to a car to rip the device from One Stop on High Street.

Boat owners are urged by police to securely stow away such strapping and remain vigilant about any suspicious activity near their vessel or boat yards.

Boat-lifting straps were also thought to have been used in a similar incident in Gloucestershire, police said.
