Woman reunited with officer who saved her life
A woman who was repeatedly stabbed in a street attack while she was 36 weeks pregnant has thanked a police officer who helped to save her life.
Natalie Queiroz was walking through Sutton Coldfield town centre in March 2016 when her attacker slashed her abdomen and wrists.
Roy Beasley, then a PC who was on patrol nearby, helped detain the offender and began lifesaving efforts before Ms Queiroz was airlifted to hospital.
Eight years on from the attack, the pair were reunited as a retirement gesture for Mr Beasley who recently returned to his former base to collect medals marking his contributions to the service.
In 2016, Ms Queiroz was left in need of emergency surgery to save her life and that of her unborn baby, who also survived.
Ms Queiroz's attacker - former partner Babur Karamat Raja - was jailed for 18 years after pleading guilty to attempted murder.
Mr Beasley said it was one of the most impactful situations in which he was involved during his three decades as an officer.
Ms Queiroz is now a White Ribbon Champion and visits prisons to raise awareness of domestic abuse and knife crime.
