Carly Hicks' family said she was "beautiful"

A mother-of-two who died in a car crash was "wonderful", her family said in a tribute.

Carly Hicks was killed when a vehicle crashed into a tree in Royal Artillery Way, Southend-on-Sea, on 20 May.

The 37-year-old's family said her loss left "a huge hole" in their lives that "can never be filled".

Essex Police said a 43-year-old man from Shoeburyness remained in custody after being charged in relation to the incident.

He was due to appear before Basildon Crown Court on 19 June, accused of causing death by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without valid insurance and possession of a Class A drug.

Ms Hicks, also from Shoeburyness, was taken to hospital after the crash at 23:30 BST and later died.

"We have been left heartbroken after our beautiful Carly lost her life," Ms Hicks' family said in a statement.

"She leaves behind two devastated children, whose lives will never be the same.

"Carly was a wonderful mum with a great sense of humour.

"She had a loving, caring personality and brought a lot of love and joy to her family and friends."
