Man charged with murder remanded in custody

A man charged with the murder of a woman in Plymouth has been remanded in custody.

Paul Butler, 53, of Stangray Avenue, appeared at Truro Crown Court accused of killing university lecturer Claire Chick.

The 48-year-old was found seriously injured in West Hoe Road on Wednesday 22 January and later died in hospital.

Mr Butler, also charged with the unlawful possession of a bladed article, was remanded in custody and is due to appear in court on Friday 3 March.

Judge Robert Linford said there would be a plea hearing on 3 March, and if there was to be a trial it would provisionally be listed for 14 July.
